Two influential members of the iconic Los Lobos band will appear at Don the Beachcomber on Wed. May 31.
Dos Lobos Blues Band, fronted by Cesar Rosas & David Hidalgo, will perform from 8:30-10:30.
With cabaret-style seating and full dinner menus to choose from, the evening will be a showcase of the two talented writer/musicians' established songs as well as some new numbers.
This is a very rare and special duet performance of favorites from a 4 decade collaboration between two of the founders of the original Los Lobos, delivered along with stories about how those songs were born and evolved. This show offers a unique opportunity to experience the music and the men who created it firsthand in an intimate and comfortable forum. Stripped down and unassuming, this tour offers a retrospective of more than 30 years of making music from one of the most iconic rock bands of our time. It’s an opportunity to look back and remember - but more a chance to look forward with anticipation.
César Rosas is a singer, songwriter and guitarist for Los Lobos. ... Perhaps the most recognizable member of Los Lobos, he is known for his trademark black sunglasses, goatee and black hair.
In the Los Lobos cocina, Cesar Rosas is the meat-and-potatoes man, so it's no surprise that his "Soul Disguise" - the first solo album by a member of the East L.A. institution - served up heaps of dense, earthy comfort food. The singer-guitarist has been playing his kind of music for over 25 years, and he was a member of Los Super Seven as well.
Rosas played a role in the wild experimentation of recent Los Lobos material, but he's also that band's traditionalist, spinning nervy tunes of raw Mexican folk and lowdown blues, providing an anchor of continuity to its increasingly bizarre trips.
David Hidalgo is best known for being the driving vocal and lead guitar force of the legendary East LA band Los Lobos (Spanish for “the wolves”). He has been a creative force exploring the borders of rock, country, R&B, Tex-Mex and cumbia for four decades. David is also a member of Los Super Seven and of the Latin Playboys, a side project band made up of some of the members of Los Lobos. He formed as well a side project band called Houndog.
In addition to his work with Los Lobos, David frequently plays musical instruments such as accordion, violin, 6-string banjo, cello, requinto jarocho, percussion, drums and guitar as a session musician on other artists’ releases.
